Gowan, Fayhee Lead Unbeaten Sandburg in Blowout of Madison

Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) scored a season-high 25 points, Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) recorded a double-double and the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team stayed unbeaten with an 80-60 victory over Madison on Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Up 12-11 5 minutes in, the Chargers (5-0) scored 17 of the next 19 over a 7-minute stretch to open up a 29-13 lead. Sandburg went on to take a 48-28 lead into halftime.
  • Three straight 3-pointers from Earl Lewis pulled Madison (3-3) within 62-49 with 5:42 to go, but Fayhee answered with a 3-pointer to help Sandburg extend its lead once again.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Gowan scored 25 on 8-of-11 shooting to match the second-highest output of his Chargers career. He also tied for the team lead with three assists and had two steals. The sophomore guard is now shooting 70 percent from the field (28 of 40) and a whopping 70.6 percent from 3-point range (12 of 17) this season.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

  • Fayhee scored 14 on 6-of-13 shooting and pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and third as a Charger.
  • Freshman forward Lane Ippensen (La Prairie, Ill./Camp Point Central) came off the bench to score seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, grab five rebounds (three offensive), record three assists and block a shot.

FOR THE WOLFPACK

  • Allen Robinson had a team-best 18 for Madison.
  • Lewis went 5 of 9 from 3-point range and scored 15.
